Don’t let wrist pain kill your esports career

Reading Don’t let wrist pain kill your esports career 4 minutes Next From super strain to insane gains: putting esports injuries behind
  • 68% of gamers face bodily strain due to overtraining.
  • With up to 14 hours of training a day, professional gamers are at a higher risk of injuries.
  • The key to maximizing performance is maintaining gamer wellness.

Pro esports athlete Dennis Fong’s Esports career was axed by wrist pain. Fong is one amongst hundreds of esports athletes to attribute injuries as their primary reason for retirement.

GamerTech’s own research showed that 68% of gamers face wrist and hand pain – that’s about 1.19 billion gamers across the world like you and me.

With numbers so staggering, why doesn’t gamer wellbeing get the limelight it so clearly needs? The glitz and glamor of competing for million dollar prize pools only remains for as long as the player is able to compete at the highest levels. Pro-gamers push themselves to their limit by training 8-14 hours a day while simultaneously battling constant pressure. It comes as no surprise when injuries, fatigue, and burnout follows.

“The average career span of a professional gamer is like three years, which may or may not be true because we don’t have a lot of great data. But why are these people not able to game after three years? It’s because of repetitive injuries.”  – Dr. Lindsey Migliore, Interview with The Gamer

“Prevention is better than cure” should be the mantra for all esports athletes. A rigidly followed wellness routine – warmups and cooldowns, stretches, and frequent exercise – can lengthen an esports career that usually lasts 3 to 5 years. No pro-gamer wants their prime to end in the blink of an eye. With highly sought after prize pools and prestige on the line, which esports athlete wouldn’t jump at the chance to lengthen their career?

A longer career with sustained peak performance cannot exist without esports wellness. In a survey consisting of 45 PC and console gamers, 96% confirmed they want to improve performance. Shaving off milliseconds in reaction time can lead to victory in tournaments. Increasing actions per minute puts you in the sight of a million dollar prize pool. The answer to boosted gamer performance seems obvious when you really think about it.

The team at GamerTech took this approach and puts gamer performance and wellness at the core of their mission.

The GT Magma Glove leverages thermotherapy to enhance gamer performance by increasing dexterity while simultaneously alleviating chronic pain. This is achieved by incorporating Thin-Film Thermal Regeneration (TFTR); a patent pending technology developed by GamerTech; which enables efficient heating by utilizing reflective material to reflect heat back to the body. The combination of TFTR and targeted compression with the Magma Glove makes it the ultimate performance enhancement glove for gamers.

GamerTech’s Sub-Zero Glove is designed to give gamers an effective post-game cooldown that reduces acute pain in the wrist and forearm while enabling its recovery. The Sub-Zero Glove delivers on targeted cryotherapy with the efficient use of Advanced Phase Change Materials (PCM).

We’re all gamers at GamerTech ourselves, so we understand, firsthand, the wellness problems that inhibit performance. This is why GamerTech has partnered with esports organizations and industry experts including Wildcard Gaming, Dr. Lindsey Migliore, and Professor William Collis to bring its technology-based wearables to the forefront of gaming.  GamerTech is in the pursuit of broadening their network of partners to build, distribute, and promote its technology-based wearables for gamers.

With varying partnership models from co-branding and OEM partnerships to Design-to-shelf, potential and existing partners can leverage GamerTech™’s diverse ecosystem and strategic manufacturing capabilities to fulfill the needs of esports teams and gamers to prevent wellness issues and impeded performance.
